“Missing someone that we’re close to - because they’ve had to go to another country, or are up in the north on a course, or went on a hiking trip with their friends - is such an unpleasant emotion, it feels peculiar to suggest that it is also, at a profound level, an extraordinary achievement and an im...

How to Tell If You're Afraid of Intimacy
Просмотров 109 тыс.23 часа назад
Sometimes we may end up in a couple where we spend a lot of time complaining - to concerned friends and family - that the other person is evidently and committedly ‘afraid of intimacy.’ They don’t often talk of their emotions; they may find it hard to be physically cosy; they don’t cry so often. The One Question You Need to Understand Who You Are

There is one question that, perhaps more than any other, gets to the root of who we are and what motivates us: “What did I need to do in childhood to win the support and approval of my parents?” We might - to sharpen the picture - need to lean on a few subsidiary enquiries… Enjoying our RUclips videos? Why We Behave As We Do

"The most good for the most number of people," so a moral utilitarian. "The duty of creative, privileged people to direct their efforts towards making the world more pleasing and tidy." Pleasing to whom? Pleasing in what way? Tidy by what method? If "untidiness" is misunderstood order? If "untidiness" is pleasing to some people? What we see here is yet another example of a Scion elite who may be well-intentioned, but instead of being "good at thinking" has failed to recognise his own subjective understanding of the world and is most likely, in fact, mostly trying to find meaning for himself in an imperfect world where all his material needs are met. Consider, for example, that Ruskin comes upon a village that grew up organically, whose streets are crooked, whose trees are knurled, whose buildings are covered in moss and ivy and whose systems run inefficiently. Ruskin might think its his "duty" to "tidy up" and improve the aesthetics of this quaint village. ...but what of the village's inhabitants? Do they share Ruskin's vision for the beautiful? Do they find their town "untidy" or find its idiosyncrasies to be an important part of its character? Do they care about its inefficiencies, or are they comforted by the familiarity? Who is Ruskin to say what should be changed and it what way? One of the problems we see in the world, especially in the West, is a problem of abundance, wherein certain people have been born into wealth of such an extent that all their material needs are forever met, with no risk to their quality of life except for utter disaster. Material needs met, they seek to satisfy their remaining needs. While a lot of human needs beyond the material can be met by human interaction, by family, friends, nature and productive activities, there are metaphysical needs that these things do not satisfy and for those who have no need to work, their need for purpose can be more present in their minds than for those of us distracted by toil. As such, these wealthy people often seek out meaning and purpose in the world around them and seeing the world is an imperfect place full of problems, of suffering, of unfairness and of all manner of horrors, they find their purpose in trying to remake the world as their will prescribes, sometimes with harmful results.

It's not like I chose it myself, it's just everyone I know always busy and have plans that do not include me. I'm afaraid that after my mom dies, I will not have anyone to talk to. Lonliness is awful. I don't know how you all enjoy it.

i am greatly appreciating the benefits of this at the minute i don't have to think of anyone else and this has rarely been the case throughout my whole life. i was parentifed from childhood and then ended up raising kids when young as my mum forced me to be more mature than her. seeing this all clearly now is givign me great psychological relief. i cant really remember but i am assuming when my mum was a childminder that i also had to look after children and then the cycle repeated in 2020. and now im free then i believe i grew up to expect nothing and deeply depressed and then i feel like relationships for alot of people now seem quite complex and i am truely content on my own thanks to richard grannon and locking myself in my room and getting away from high base level narcissists and i have friends and like my solitude unless someone is going to offer me a half decent relationship i am quite content on my own. i saw my friend and her baby there the other day and i will see another friend tomorrow. i am sure my ex boyfriend is happy for me as i am for him. and i am glad the three people who live with me are gone as they are depressive and at times psychologically abusive or denialist and so now i am feeling better i will move away in the autumn i also see alot of class issues with relationships in the modern world that i was always aware of and i worry about my brother and his girlfriend and ex girlfriend seems to always pick upper middle class women all seriousness i think the son of a bus driver part time farmer not well suited to parents with degree level jobs. in all seriousness withe the struggles of single young people no one wants to admit it but class is an issue in my opinion as is that yoga class issue i keep harping on about. i think parents should start considering this as there should only be two classes in northern ireland ORDINARY WORKING CLASS AND EDUCATED WORKING CLASS . also working class people in my country cant pretend this life long single crap will work here our ancestry is dependent on others. i think people are scared to be single due to death anxiety perhaps? its not easy but there is a cyclist i know of 80 copes very well had a very difficult life lost two kids in 50s few ones need perspective shift you die on yer own anyway more important you have good relationships with others i find if not romantic easier in the modern world in many ways from what i see. lana blakely your not the main character may help those single for obvs reasons.... and alot of people need to resolve some narcissim and others need to reduce people pleasing i assume it will people enter relationships and help people maintain them.i guess birth order affects peoples ability to tolerate being single i was able to mediate this to an extent life long as sensitive child and couldnt hack all the high conflict so i withdrew and was an excellent strategy for life saved me. I think people need to realise that the lives of all these single youtubers male and female are complex beyond the content of the youtube. for instance that small wardrobe girl will be an only child happy alone and had a rewarding career and so on and i think young people cant model it nor me my situation is even more unique i suppose as middle child. i think if too many people remain single too long going to be serious housing issues. you should not have educated them to believe people dont need people in a country like northern ireland. i think single women do need to start cultivating better friendships i only had to do so as my situation was so stressful from 2020 on and knew wanted to end the relationship i was in. I think a big thing for single people is getting away from tinder in northern ireland. its not a healthy way to meet people. and choose life SAM VAKNIN youtube. and ONE DAY AT A TIME SCHOOL OF LIFE.
